WhatsApp is a service of Meta that users have been using without advertisements for a long time. Though, the commitment to an advertisement-free WhatsApp has reached an end because now, advertisements will be seen on this messaging platform.
However, from the company, these advertisements will only be shown on the status screen for now. That is, the way advertisements can be seen on Instagram after some stories, the same can be experienced in WhatsApp now when watching statuses.
According to the ongoing statement from Meta, for the making of advertisements, different elements like country, city, language, and channels (the ones which you will have followed) will be taken into consideration. Whereas, the data of these advertisements will also be taken into consideration on which the users will show reactions.
However, the company says that the user’s identification data like phone numbers, messages, calls, and groups will not be used to show advertisements.
If a WhatsApp account is added to the Meta account center by the user, then the priorities of the account will be used to show advertisements by the company. It is said in the statement that this will allow companies and users to promote their channels.
According to Meta, around 1.5 billion people use status and channels daily. From WhatsApp business platforms and click to WhatsApp advertisements have been used to earn money till now.
From Meta, WhatsApp channels will be allowed to earn from search advertisements and subscriptions as well. The co-president of WhatsApp has said that short advertisements will prove to be very beneficial to the app.
According to the company, advertisements and the features related to it will be introduced to the world in the coming months. It should be noted that Meta (The company’s name was Facebook at this time) bought WhatsApp in 2014 for 19 billion dollars and now, after 11 years, advertisements are being made a part of this messaging platform.
