Sony has revealed a new midrange Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia 10 VII, that it will be bringing to markets like the UK, Europe, and Asia, but not the US. This is more significant than the majority of Sony phones, as it is a substantial change since the back design hasn’t changed significantly in over five years: a camera bar, similar to recent Pixels and now even iPhones.
According to Winfuture.de, news and rumors from Hong Kong renders show the Xperia 10 VII in black, white, and a new turquoise finish, sporting more tapered edges and a horizontal camera bar. The dual-camera design breaks from Sony’s standard vertical stack, last seen revived on the Xperia 1 VII.

Sony Xperia 10 VII Short Review

The manufacturing quality is good, but the good thing is that Sony claims a two-day battery life from the 5,000mAh battery, but charging is only done via cable. Aside from the standalone Xperia Pro-I, the Xperia Android line has only occasionally broken with a vertically stacked rear-camera arrangement at one corner, dating back to the first-generation Xperia 5 from 2019.
However, the 10 VII reinterprets this design language with a pair of cameras side-by-side in a pill-shaped raised bar that spans the width of the back of the phone. It has a matte plastic body in black, white, or turquoise and looks nothing like any Xperia phone before it. It’s a little more reminiscent of Google Pixel phones, a design ethos this week borrowed from Apple’s iPhone Air.
From the front, things are more familiar, with Sony’s predictable desire for a wide bezel above and below the display. So, the phone is not as small as its 120Hz 6.1-inch display may lead you to believe, but it is still smaller and lighter than most others. Like the recent Xperia 1 handsets, it’s also given up what was once a hallmark 21:9 aspect ratio for a squarer, more conventional 19.5:9 proportions.
There are a handful of other stock Sony touches, however. People will undoubtedly welcome the 3.5mm headphone jack, and that same crowd is also probably going to love the expandable microSD storage. The (still big) bezel incorporates front-facing stereo speakers as well, and the joint IP65 / 68 rating is better than most provide. Also present is a side-mounted single-stage camera shutter button — a design feature that is less uncommon than it once was.
But otherwise, this is a typical at best mid-ranger. Nothing is awe-inspiring about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, while the dual rear cameras — 50-megapixel main, 13-megapixel ultrawide — also appear fairly standard in this price range.
Now, I already admit to being a sucker for the styling of Sony’s more recent smartphones. Still, historically, the rest of the device has always left something to be desired in the overall package. They were starting to look a bit old; however, I am definitely a fan of the new styling. Sony recently said that the Xperia phones are “very important” to the company. Hopefully, this revamp is a hint at some degree of commitment to the line and that it’ll carry over to next year’s flagship as well.
